Cameron's Birthday!Cameron Julius Masiak was born at 12:05 on Wednesday 11/28/2007 in Lawrenceville, GA, Gwinnett Medical Center. Cam weighed in at 7lbs 5oz, and his length was 20 1/4 inches. Our boy was born happy and healthy, and certainly hungry like his papa!
Dana and I were awoken Tuesday the 27th with Dana's "bag 'o waters" breaking. Dana said, "Cas...I don't think you're going to work today", and I quickly began scrambling around for phone lists, packed bags, and photo equipment. We calmly loaded the car, and made our way to the hospital at about 7am, while calling family and close friends. Mom and sis/grandma and aunt were ecstatic, and jumped in the car for the 7 hour trip from St Augustine to North Atlanta.
We got checked in, got comfy, and then waited most of the day for Dana's mood to change from gleeful, to painful. Mom and Meredith arrived about 2pm, and we resorted to playing rummy to pass the time. At about 4pm, the midwife suggested an "augmentation" pill to get things moving. Only 4 hours later at 8pm did she start to feel the pain of contractions. This was a great sign, but you couldn't tell that to her, she was in a TON of pain. After about 2 hours of struggling, "Doctor Dave" the anistesiologist came in and relieved her with the epidural. We slept through the night (yeah right!), and began pushing at 10am the next day.
Dana pushed and pushed for about 2 hours, and little Cameron peeked out, and was born at 12:05pm. The little guy was happy already, and did very little crying in his first couple of minutes. Dana turned back into the Dana we know and love, all smiles, with some tears mixed in. It was just beginning...
About a half hour later, I went to grab the newest grandmother in the world, came back and poor Dana had turned white, and felt nautious. In true "drama queen" style, Dana had a small episode that drew the entire floor staff into the room. She passed right out, and woke up to questions like, "do you know where you are", and "do you know who this is" (pointing at me). Dana recovered slowly, and felt much better just hours later. We spent the night at the hospital, and were released the next evening. Cam was a true gentleman for close to 36 hours, quiet as can be, and not doing much but sleeping. Things would soon change...stay tuned!
